A CHAIN OF INTEGRITY IS ONLY AS STRONG AS ITS WEAKEST LINK

Organizational performance is dictated by constraints.

"A chain is only as strong as its weakest link," is about constraints.

Constraints are bottlenecks that block organizational potential.

Constraints are everywhere.

Constraints prevent organizations from achieving their purpose.

Constraint limits or restricts the natural flow. It requires force and often causes frustration.

Constraints can be in systems, processes, policies, people, information, or equipment.

Every system, no matter how good, has at least one constraint– this is the "weakest link."

Every system can have only one constraint at a time.

Everything else is a "non-constraints" until the existing constraint is fixed.

Resolving one constraint then allows a new weakest link to be revealed.

INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE-DO YOU KNOW?

The question is not what is the correlation between integrity and performance but rather why do we ignore what we know is true?  

Integrity is the essence of everything successful.

• Do you know that?

Success is built through cohesion and adherence to the constancy of the purpose.

• Do you know this is another name for integrity?

As integrity declines, so does workability and as workability declines so does performance.

• Do you know that you demand integrity in electrical, water and sewage systems?  

The fundamental element of integrity –truthfulness is critical to survival.  

• Do you know that “surfacing the truth” is the essential to lean enterprises?  

Integrity is not only personal, it's collective.  

• Do you know people or organizations without integrity?

Employees provide discretionary effort based on their perception of the integrity of the systems.  

• Do you know that a company with the most discretionary effort wins in the end?  

Integrity is not a philosophy or a theory. It is practical, concrete, efficient and effective.

• Do you know people make buying decisions based on the integrity?  

Integrity is a shared asset directly correlated to wealth creation.

• Do you know if your money is invested with integrity

Integrity is doing the right thing, doing the next right thing and doing things the right way.

• Do you know any other way to do things?

Of course you know all this.  

• Then why do we ignore what you know?

INTEGRITY, RIGHT AND TRUST

Integrity, right and trust are real and observable. They are the essence of everything successful.

Even without explicit definitions, integrity, right and trust are understood implicitly as critical variables in every choice we make -whether it is consumer products or the selection of a mate. 

We instinctively judge levels of integrity, right and trustworthiness in others but are blind to how others assess our integrity, rightness and trustworthiness.   

We proclaim that integrity, right and trust are critical to success, yet complain when success eludes us.   

The definition of integrity as adherence to a standard eludes us. The complexity of integrity as wholeness mystifies us. The idea of integrity as perfection is dismissed as impractical.  

Integrity is doing the right thing, doing the next right thing and doing things the right way.

INTEGRITY and DOING

Doing is acting on that which is within; Doing is also acting on that which is without.

Simply put, you act on things that arise naturally from within yourself, such as going for a walk;   you also react to things outside of yourself, such as dressing appropriately for the walk.  

Being-in-integrity increases well-being; being-out-of integrity creates ill-being.

Doing is where being is actualized.

Doing is the what, where, when and how being-in-integrity increases well-being; it is also the what, where, when and how being-out-of integrity creates ill-being.

Doing things that are in integrity means actions and reactions are integrated, aligned and balanced.  

The Law of Integrity

Actions that create order are in integrity. Actions that result in disorder are out of integrity.

The Law of Integrity[1] provides more insight into this statement.  

The Law of Integrity states that as integrity (whole and complete) declines, workability declines, and as workability declines, value (or more generally, the opportunity for performance) declines.

When it a car is not acting in integrity, something is wrong. It is not whole and complete. It has a component missing or is malfunctioning.

The car becomes unreliable and unpredictable. This in turn creates frustration, uncertainty and insecurity within ourselves.

If the car fails in traffic, we could create a traffic jam, and be late for appointments or cause others to be late. This causes a temporary inability to perform.

This creates internal feelings of powerless and anger while destroying trust in your relationships.

In this hypothetical example, the out-of-integrity car creates a lack of integrity in life with a lot of un-workability fallout.

This is true of all our associations with persons, groups or organizations that are out of integrity. The effects are huge, but generally attributed to something other than the lack of integrity.

Violating the law of Integrity generates painful consequences just as surely as violating the law of gravity.

It helps explains why when you are acting out of integrity, you create more disorder.

Integrity exists within your experience. Integrity is not a theory or a philosophy.

Integrity is concrete and real; it is efficient and effective.  

Acting with integrity is doing things right the first time.

Integrity is doing the doing the right thing, doing the next right thing and doing things the right way.

No wonder all will say that integrity is the essence of everything successful.

Some people who work with their hands and their hearts know this.

Some people who work with their minds know this but have forgotten.

WRONG DOING, INTEGRITY AND NON-VIOLENCE

The world is a strange place with unwritten rules.

Some are rewarded for wrong doing. Others are not punished when they turn a blind eye. 

I broke that covenant at work.  I called the wrong doing. The consequence was termination.   

The details don’t matter.  It is the same everywhere. The people with power see themselves as right and those that oppose them are wrong.  

KNOW YOURSELF

In 432 BC Socrates said, “Know yourself.”

Easier said than done.

The word “Know” means to regard as true beyond any doubt. The word “Yourself” means your unique, usual, and normal self.  So to “know yourself” means regarding that which is unique, usual, and normal about you as true beyond doubt.

Integrity is wholeness and completeness, unfolding and becoming, purity and objectivity. Integrity is rooted in your self. If you don’t know yourself, you don’t know integrity.

Do you know yourself as true beyond doubt?

What is Right?

People want to do the right thing. It is something we all regard as worthy and desirable. It is a belief, and a standard that is the heart of everything we do.

Every choice has a consequence that either adds or subtracts from your integrity and trust.   

Integrity is the optimal experience. The process of its realization is the path way to an authentic individuated life. It is the ultimate journey into the mysteries of one’s life.
