Organizational performance is dictated by constraints.
"A chain is only as strong as its weakest link," is about constraints.
Constraints are bottlenecks that block organizational potential.
Constraints are everywhere.
Constraints prevent organizations from achieving their purpose.Constraint limits or restricts the natural flow. It requires force and often causes frustration.
Constraints can be in systems, processes, policies, people, information, or equipment.
Every system, no matter how good, has at least one constraint– this is the "weakest link."
Every system can have only one constraint at a time.
Everything else is a "non-constraints" until the existing constraint is fixed.
Resolving one constraint then allows a new weakest link to be revealed.
